JAKARTA-The method to prevent flooding with weather modification cloud seeding was not cheap. Cloud seeding salts in the clouds dispersive method using cost aircraft reached Rp2, 5 billion over a period of 30 working days.
Head of Data Information and Public Relations BNPB Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said a large portion of the cost of the artificial rain is fuel that reaches 60% of the total cost.
He explained there are actually three ways to create artificial rain with shot, aerosols and flar or similar fireworks. Although expensive, BNPB keep the budget as a step to issue five-year flood in the capital. Other efforts will be pursued is dredging the riverbed.
BNPB currently filed Rp1 trillion disaster funds to the Ministry of Finance which still need the approval of Parliament. The funds were taken from the disaster reserve fund annually budgeted Rp 4 trillion to deal with disasters in Indonesia.
"Catastrophe reserve fund is relatively small compared to the total needs of the disaster reached Rp30 trillion budget. We hope people can understand when rehabilitation program post-disaster reconstruction a little slow because it hampered the budget, "he said. (38/yus)
